BACKGROUND:Vila's world is a slightly more fantastical version of rural 17th century Europe, back when men were men and people still put leeches on each other, and occasionally, giant decomposing crow monsters terrorized the countryside. Monsters are mythically rare, but real, and an order of elite monster hunters send agents to deal with them wherever they might crop up. As for Vila:
➤ Her family was one of many supporters of the king during the last war, and were granted titles and land for it. The Ven Trysks owned a grandiose estate settled in the low mountains and governed the nearby lands. Virilla was the second eldest, preceded by her brother and followed by another brother and a young sister.
➤ Vila's eldest brother fell deathly ill when she was in her early twenties. Having exhausted modern medicine and desperate for some kind of cure, she referred back to dark, unclean grimoires collected and locked away in the castle dungeons. Settling on a dark ritual that promised "new life" in exchange for blood and cursing the caster, she enlisted a willing victim and performed the rite, saving her brother's life. Sort of.
➤ Her brother became a ravenous monster, attacking the family and servants - Vila was powerless to stop him as the curse took hold of her, saving her life by making her brother think she had already died. He killed the castle's occupants and disappeared, and Vila awoke later to discover herself a monster who burned in sunlight. The distance between the estate and civilization, as well as the landscape, effectively trapped her in her home forever.
➤ 100 years goes by. She discovered that when she reached the point of starvation, she would lose her mind and become a terrifying, rotting crow-like creature that attacked the village at the base of the mountain and ate its people, then return to her castle and enter a year-long torpor. The village begins making yearly sacrifices to her, naming her Batsheba. She spends her waking time (a month each year) in her crumbling castle writing letters to herself and wearing spiders.
➤ Some douchebag monster hunter interrupts the yearly sacrifice to stab her and drive her back to her lair hungry. Once she's back to her sensible human(ish) form, Vila seizes the opportunity and drags him back to her manor to have some company for once. PERSONALITYVila's entire life can be summed up in the phrase "I fucked up real bad". Because she did. She fucked up real, real bad.
➤ COURTEOUS. Because of her nobility and how she was raised, Vila is polite almost to the point of painfulness, even when she doesn't really want to be - really graphic swearing and crassness fluster her, and the seen, not heard aspects of her upbringing are still intact, so she has a habit of not wanting to bother people who seem otherwise occupied.
On the other hand, if she doesn't realize it's rude (or disagrees about its rudeness), she's prone to doing off the wall weird shit without even realizing it. If someone is downright unacceptably rude to her or in her presence, she won't hesitate to scare or otherwise persuade them into being nicer people. Manners are important.
➤ CURIOUS. Even before becoming what she is now, Vila was deeply curious about the world and particularly the things she was told she couldn't be interested in - it's how she found the grimoire in the first place, and even now she'll follow a thread of interest even to the point of putting herself in danger. Not that a lot of people can really do anything to her these days, but still.
➤ EASILY HURT. Ironically, one of the triggers for flipping her switch from "pleasant" to "face-eater" is calling her a monster (the other two are starving her and attacking her). Her feelings are pretty easily hurt! She has a hard time not letting her emotions go wild around other people, good or bad, which is less than great when it makes her more susceptible to frenzy - a state where her cognitive abilities tank and she goes nuts.
It's only really a problem when she's very hungry, which is... all the time back home, whoops.
➤ NAIVE. Sort of! She's not completely ignorant of the world, but she's a little rusty. Innuendo or unspoken social cues might go right over her head if they're not blatant, for an obvious example, but she's equally clumsy when it comes to common knowledge that can't be gleaned from a 17th century book. Leeches. Leeches for everything.
➤ GUILTY. Accidentally causing the deaths of your entire family and then eating countless virgins alive will make a person feel kind of bad, and Vila does - time has eased things, but she still feels deeply remorseful for all the harm she's caused over the past century and tries very hard not to do more.
➤ MONSTROUS. Aside from the frenzy state, Vila's just not really human in a lot of ways - her prey drive is strong, she doesn't show fear at things she probably should, she hasn't been constrained by society or normal human behavior for a long time and acts kind of odd because of it, and for all she hates what she's become, she's keenly aware that she has an upper hand over normal, run of the mill people. Being pacifistic at heart doesn't mean she can't (or won't) break a jaw if threatened.
➤ LONELY. She's really, really lonely! Years without substantial human contact have left her craving it, which means she goes to great lengths to keep it once she has it; she won't put up with outright abuse, but even being treated with bland kindness or total apathy is better than nothing at all, and she'll roll with it just to have someone to talk to.
➤ KIND. Despite all her drawbacks (and the danger she knows she poses to the people around her), Vila is genuinely kind at heart. She wants to coexist peacefully with everyone else and learn everything she can and maybe kiss people, and definitely not eat their still-beating hearts out of their chests anymore.
INCENTIVE/FIT:Between Eudio and her creepy castle, the decision whether to come to the city or not is pretty straightforward! She wants to be around people, like normal people, like the kinds she doesn't have to effectively kidnap and wall up in her home just to have someone to talk to; she wants to do and see new things, meet new people, and just enjoy life as it should be. Partially, she wants to prove to herself and everyone else that she doesn't do monstrous things by choice, and can live peacefully if given the option. The city itself is a pretty good incentive, but otherwise all Vila asks for is the ability to walk in sunlight again.
As for intimacy, she can actually handle it pretty well for being so separated from the world. She wants to do and try everything, even if it's kind of embarrassing or something she was told not to do as a kid - she wants to do it! She's not actually physically dead, and can feel arousal or cuddle or touch just like anybody else, and since the isolation has made her kind of... weird...... in general, she won't see a problem with just hugging or touching or grabbing people up without warning. That's how you do friendly these days, right? SAMPLES: here and here; they're both prose heavy but pretty short, so let me know if I should write a sample instead!
ANYTHING ELSE?Vila's curse is (loosely) based in the wendigo myth! She'll need a minimal amount of human flesh per week to keep her sane, and has no powers that affect free will or control others - besides having the strength of a roided bodybuilder in their prime and moving pretty fast, as well as a sharp sense of smell, she has a deep affinity for insects and turns into a monstrous flying zombie crow when starved. You know, normal stuff.
